I wonder what would happen if things were turned around. If a black police officer arrested (or ‘beat down’) white kids? Would everyone still be kicking up such a fuss? Or, if a black teen went to a church and killed 9 white people (including the priest)…would there be an uprising? No. There are other things to worry about!

I’m going to guess you’re not black and also maybe unaware of many aspects of US history and the present as it pertains to race. White people in the US aren’t killed routinely just for being white. When a white man goes into a black church specifically to kill black people because he thinks we’re taking over, that is something worth worrying about to me as a black person. When a 12-year old black child is killed by a white police officer for playing with a toy gun in an open carry state where grown white men have walked around freely with guns it’s a problem and a huge concern for me as a black person.

It’s incredibly offensive, dismissive, patronizing, presumptuous and simplistic to say there are more important things to worry about. I and many other black Americans are worried about our lives and being treated subhuman.
